Suarez returns to first-team training
Luis Suarez was seen training yesterday with Liverpool’s first-team squad — suggesting the striker has patched up his differences with manager Brendan Rodgers after going public with his desire to leave the English Premier League club.
Rodgers said last week Suarez would need to apologize to his teammates and the club before he could return to training after complaining about the player’s attitude.
Pictures yesterday in British media showed Suarez taking part in warm-up routines and laughing and joking around with teammates at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground. The club had not said whether the player has made an official apology.
Suarez, who has been training on his own, is unavailable for the first six games of the new season because of suspension.
Meanwhile, Premier League officials have written to clubs to emphasize the need for good conduct by players and managers after several disciplinary cases.
There will be increased attention on the world’s richest league when it starts this weekend, with a new series of television deals generating around US$8.5 billion over the next three seasons.
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: “We get hugely involved in the ethics of the game.
“In the e-mail I have sent out to clubs preseason there is stuff in there about players’ behavior, (club) officials’ behavior.”
Scudamore, though, insists the conduct of players on the pitch is improving.
