SWEDEN beat the United States 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday in the final of the Algarve Cup.
Heather Mitts hit the post in the seventh round of penalties to hand Sweden the trophy after the game ended 1-1. The Swedes had taken the lead through a 19th-minute strike from Lotta Schelin after a defensive blunder by Shannon Boxx. However, Boxx avenged the mistake by tapping in an equalizer in the 90th. China finished fifth by defeating Iceland 2-1, and Finland beat Portugal 4-2 on penalties to take seventh place.
