Tevez shines as City rallies past Chelsea

CARLOS Tevez marked his Manchester City return by setting up Samir Nasri's late winner in a vital 2-1 home victory over Chelsea on Wednesday that kept the pressure on leader Manchester United in the title race.

The Argentine, an outcast since September after falling out with the club, came off the bench with City trailing 0-1 to Gary Cahill's deflected shot and his moment of class in the 85th minute allowed City to move to within a point of United.

"I am really happy for him (Tevez)," Nasri said. "He has showed great spirit and today showed he can be really important until the end of the season.

"It's good that it was him who gave the assist."

Sergio Aguero had levelled from the penalty spot for City which has won all 15 home league matches this season.

"When they scored, I think we didn't deserve to go behind," City manager Roberto Mancini said. "But we wanted, we desired to win this game.

"It's more than three points, this game."

Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 at home with Stoke City in its first game since its FA Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers was abandoned following Fabrice Muamba's cardiac arrest.

Rafael van der Vaart scored a late equalizer for Spurs to end a run of three league defeats but they fell below north London rival Arsenal which won 1-0 at Everton to climb to third.

Arsenal has 55 points to Tottenham's 54 with Chelsea, which hosts Tottenham on Saturday, on 49.

Liverpool suffered a late collapse in west London, throwing away a 2-0 lead to concede three late goals and lose 3-2 at relegation-threatened Queens Rark Rangers.

Relegation-threatened QPR trailed to second-half goals by Sebastian Coates and Dirk Kuyt before Shaun Derry gave the home side hope with a 77th-minute header.

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse leveled the scores nine minutes later before substitute Jamie Mackie slotted past goalkeeper Jose Reina to secure the west Londoners three points and hoist his side out of the relegation zone.
