Tianjin snatches a point in Seongnam
A SECOND-HALF header from Romanian defender Lucian Goian earned Chinese FA Cup winner Tianjin Teda a 1-1 draw at South Korea's Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in their AFC Champions League match last night.
Han Sang-wun's 14th minute header opened the scoring for Seongnam that only helped to bolster the visitors as Goian grabbed the equalizer nine minutes after the hour mark.
Elsewhere, in a match of league champions in Guangdong, China's Guangzhou Evergrande lost 1-2 to Thai champion Buriram United.
Tianjin coach Josip Kuze was happy with the result.
"We lost Wang Xinxin due to a fever before the game and he was not able to play. If we had him, we could have been more organized. But we were equal to Seongnam for 80 minutes and I am happy with a 1-1 draw."
The home side took the lead after 14 minutes as Park Jin-po's inviting front post cross was directed into the opposite corner by Han.
Han came close to a second goal as Tianjin goalkeeper Song Zhenyu had to be on his toes as the midfielder attempted to guide a free-kick into the far corner.
Tianjin stepped up the search for an equalizer with the introductions of Zhao Liao and Nie Tao after the break and the visitors should have pulled level just under 20 minutes into the second half as defender Goian surged forward and slipped the ball through to Sjoerd Ars only for the Dutch striker to be denied by an alert Ha Kang-jin in the Seongnam goal.
