Toure racially abused on Twitter
ANTI-RACISM group Kick It Out says it has informed police that Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was racially abused within hours of reactivating his Twitter account on Monday.
Toure tweeted “Great to be back on twitter after a good win yesterday. Now my focus is on the next game... Happy Monday everyone!!”
Within hours of posting the tweet, the 31-year-old was abused by other users, prompting Kick It Out to say via twitter “We are informing the Police of racist tweets directed @yayatoure earlier this evening and offer him our full support #kickitout.” City beat Manchester United 1-0 in a Sunday derby.
Greater Manchester Police said it had been “made aware” of the abuse claims, according to the BBC.
Toure left the social networking site five months ago to focus on preparations for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with the Ivory Coast.
