Trainee wins case

A FORMER member of Manchester United's youth squad, whose career was ended by a high tackle, will keep his compensation package after an appeal against it was rejected Wednesday. Ben Collett's right leg was broken in two places by Gary Smith in 2003 during a reserve team match between United and Middlesbrough. Collett, who was 18 at the time, was last year awarded 4.3 million pounds (then US$8.2 million) in damages - a figure contested by both Boro and Smith despite both admitting liability. Manchester's High Court dismissed the appeal.
