Turkey, Italy, France make bids to host Euro 2016

TURKEY, Italy and France have begun making their final presentations to win hosting rights for football's 2016 European Championship.

Turkish president Abdullah Gul gave the keynote speech Friday for his country's bid to host its first major football tournament.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy is scheduled to lead his country's plea to the 13 voting members of UEFA's ruling executive.

Playing greats Zinedine Zidane of France and Italy's Paolo Maldini are helping make their countries' case.

Each bid requires state funds of hundreds of millions of euros (dollars) to build and renovate stadiums.

Euro 2016 will feature 24 teams playing 51 matches over one month.

UEFA's voting verdict is expected after 11:00 GMT.
