Udinese's Inler dumps Milan out of Italian Cup

UDINESE ousted AC Milan from the Italian Cup quarterfinals with a 1-0 win at San Siro on Wednesday.

Gokhan Inler struck in the 56th minute, but both sides were guilty of wasting numerous chances to score.

In the semifinals, Udinese will play the winner of the match between Inter Milan and Juventus.

Udinese took the lead 11 minutes into the second half. Alexis Sanchez caught Luca Antonini in possession on the edge of the area and pulled the ball back for Inler, who shot low inside the far post.

"I would say that it was an important match for us," Udinese coach Gianni De Biasi said. "We wanted to play well and we did, creating many chances. I'm pleased with how we played.

"When you aren't doing well every mistake seems to count and affects confidence. Tonight was different. You saw a team at the top of its game and playing well."

In Spain, Racing Santander reached the Copa del Rey semifinals by beating Osasuna 3-0 for a 5-1 aggregate, while Sevilla also advanced despite losing to Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 on Wednesday.

Santander led 2-1 from the first leg and Francisco "Xisco" Jimenez Tejada put the club further ahead in the sixth minute, slotting the ball past goalkeeper Roberto Fernandez from inside the area.

Henrique put the tie out of reach of the 2005 finalist following a corner, when he headed home from close range in the 23rd.

Teenager Sergio Canales, who has interested some of Europe's top clubs with his recent performances, scored the visitor's third with a free-kick in the 79th.

Sevilla went into its quarterfinal against Deportivo La Coruna with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, but the return game was lackluster as both struggled to create chances.

Rodolfo Bodipo scored for the visitors in the 44th after some chaotic defending by Sevilla. The striker was replaced in the second half after getting injured.

The 2007 champion pressured for an equalizer late in the game and goalkeeper Manuel Fernandez had to make a first-class save in the 70th to stop Manuel "Lolo" Ortiz's header before denying Luis Fabiano moments later.
