鈥楿ltra鈥 fans walk out as Inter winless run hits 8

INTER Milan’s crisis deepened with a 1-2 loss at home to Sassuolo in the Serie A yesterday that extended its winless streak to eight matches and included a walkout by its most ardent supporters.

Twenty minutes in with the score 0-0 during the lunchtime fixture, hard-core “ultra” fans unfurled a banner that read, “Since you don’t deserve our support, today we’re saluting you and going to eat”. The “ultras” then exited the San Siro stadium while the remaining fans applauded.

Inter’s fourth straight loss came in the first match since Inter fired Stefano Pioli and put youth team coach Stefano Vecchi in charge. The Nerazzurri have not won since March.

Pietro Iemmello scored twice for Sassuolo before substitute Eder pulled one back for Inter.

The loss left Inter eighth and likely out of the Europa League places.

Juventus needs only a draw at AS Roma later to clinch a record sixth straight Serie A title.

In other matches yesterday, it was: Sampdoria 1, Chievo 1; Torino 0, Napoli 5; Crotone 1, Udinese 0; Cagliari 3, Empoli 2; Palermo 1, Genoa 0; and Bologna 3, Pescara 1.

On Saturday, Atalanta conceded a late equalizer and drew with AC Milan 1-1 but still celebrated its return to Europe after 26 years.

Atalanta is fifth, six points ahead of Milan with two rounds remaining.

The fourth- to sixth-placed clubs qualify for the Europa League, a competition that Atalanta has not participated in since 1991.
