United rallies late to snatch draw at Villa
MANCHESTER United scored twice in the last eight minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at Aston Villa yesterday just when it looked to be heading for its first English Premier League defeat of the season.
Villa went ahead when Ashley Young powered home a penalty in the 72nd minute after being fouled by Wes Brown. Marc Albrighton doubled the lead with 14 minutes left when he finished off a superb counter-attacking move, slamming the ball high into the net from six meters out after a perfectly weighted cross from Stewart Downing.
United clawed its way back when Federico Macheda powered in from 20 meters out in the 82nd and Nemanja Vidic saved the point with a stooping header at the far post four minutes later.
Although it avoided defeat, United remained in second place in the table, three points behind Chelsea (28) having played a match more. Chelsea can stretch its lead to six points if it beats Sunderland at home today.
In Germany, the deadly Shinji Kagawa and Lucas Barrios were on target again as Borussia Dortmund beat Hamburg SV 2-0 on Friday to power seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
The Japanese midfielder and Paraguayan forward have now scored 13 goals between them in the team's superb start to the season.
Dortmund, which has won 10 of its 12 games and has not lost since the opening day of the season, has 31 points and an impressive 29 goals.
Mainz 05 can close the gap on the leader to four points when it hosts Hanover 96 later.
"We want to consistently play good football and today we've played a good game," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said.
Hamburg counterpart Armin Veh agreed: "They're a very good team, for me they're the favorites".
There was barely a shot on goal in a disappointing first half and the game came to life four minutes after the break when Lukasz Piszczek burst down the right and pulled the ball back for Kagawa to hit his sixth league goal of the season with a deflected shot.
Nuri Sahin's 30-meter free kick was then tipped over by Jaroslav Drobny as the hosts stayed on top.
Kagawa helped create the second in the 70th when he set Mario Goetze free on the right.
Goetze found Kevin Grosskreutz at the far post and he teed the ball up for Barrios to score his seventh league goal of the season.
In the last minute Paolo Guerrero mustered seventh-placed Hamburg's first shot on target.
