Valencia signs deal with Mustafi
SPANISH club Valencia says it has signed Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi to a five-year contract.
The 22-year-old Mustafi helped Germany win the World Cup this summer in Brazil. He made three appearances before injuring his left thigh in a win over Algeria in the round of 16.
Mustafi arrives from Italian club Sampdoria. Valencia did not release the financial details of the transfer.
Mustafi, whose parents are Albanian, says “coming to Valencia is a step forward in my career and I hope to have success.” He came through the youth academy at German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV and had a stint at English Premier League side Everton before joining Sampdoria in 2012.
Valencia is in the process of being taken over by billionaire Singapore tycoon Peter Lim, raising hopes it can mount a serious challenge to Spanish rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, the world’s richest clubs by income.
