Van Praag withdraws from FIFA race
FIFA presidential candidate Michael van Praag has withdrawn from next week鈥檚 election and thrown his weight behind Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein.
鈥淢ichael van Praag decided to withdraw his candidacy to become the next FIFA president and to join forces with presidential candidate Prince Ali Al Hussein,鈥 said a statement published by his campaign organizers yesterday.
The Dutch FA president added that he had made the decision after 鈥渢horough deliberation and reflection with different involved parties and stakeholders.鈥
Van Praag鈥檚 announcement has left Jordan鈥檚 Prince Ali and former Portugal international Luis Figo as the only challengers to incumbent Sepp Blatter. Van Praag was the most outspoken critic of the Swiss administrator.
The announcement meant the spotlight switched to Figo.
The former Portugal forward had denied suggestions on Wednesday that he would also pull out of the race.
