Van the man again for Gunners
A ROBIN van Persie double earned Arsenal a fifth consecutive English Premier League victory yesterday as Arsene Wenger's side beat Norwich City 2-1 at Carrow Road.
Arsenal dominated throughout but had to come from a goal down after Steve Morison had given the home side a 16th-minute lead in the day's early kickoff.
Dutchman Van Persie equalized with a simple tap-in after 26 minutes then struck again just before the hour mark with a deft finish to take his league tally for the season to 13 and his calendar year total to 31.
Theo Walcott nearly extended Arsenal's lead late on but his fierce shot from an acute angle struck the outside of the post.
Victory moved Arsenal above Liverpool, which faces Chelsea today, into sixth place with 22 points from 12 games.
Leader Manchester City, on 31 points, hosts third-placed Newcastle United (25) later yesterday while Manchester United, which is second, five points adrift, is at Swansea City in the late kickoff.
Wenger said earlier that he will think about his future at Arsenal at the end of the season, L'Equipe Magazine reported yesterday.
Asked by the magazine if he would still be with the north London club next season, the 62-year-old Frenchman replied: "I will consider it at the end of the season. I have two years left on my contract.
"But with me or someone else, it makes no difference. Who comes after me must have the basics to achieve success."
Wenger arrived at the club in 1996 and won the 1998, 2002 and 2004 Premier League titles. Success has subsequently become elusive and he lost two leading players in Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri to City in the close season.
