Wolfsburg: De Bruyne deal with City not done yet
VfL Wolfsburg yesterday denied German media reports it has agreed a transfer fee with Manchester City for Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, but admits it is negotiating.
German daily Bild and football magazine Kicker, plus local newspaper Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, all said City is set to pay a new Bundesliga record of 74 million euros (US$83.64 million ) for De Bruyne.
Wolfsburg鈥檚 director of sport Klaus Allofs has admitted De Bruyne wants to leave and that the club is negotiating with City, but denied any agreement has yet been reached.
Wolves host Schalke 04 in a German league match today and Allofs says they expect to have De Bruyne in their squad.
鈥淭he reports I have read are wrong, there鈥檚 no agreement with Manchester City,鈥 said Allofs tersely.
鈥淲hat I can confirm is despite our efforts to convince Kevin to stay with us and fulfill his contract, we have opened up negotiations.鈥
The transfer fee quoted, which could rise to 80 million euros with bonuses, would smash the previous German Bundesliga record when Liverpool paid Hoffenheim 41 million for Brazil striker Roberto Firmino in July.
City has been chasing the signature of the 24-year-old Belgium international, for weeks.
Germany鈥檚 footballer of the year for 2014/15 played a key role in helping Wolfsburg win the German Cup last season as it finished second only to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga after he scored 16 goals and had 29 assists.
Meanwhile, Sevilla has completed the signing of forward Fernando Llorente from Juventus and the 30-year-old former Spain international has agreed a three-year contract, the Europa League champion said.
Sevilla announced late on Wednesday Llorente was in the Andalusian capital for a medical and he returns to La Liga, where he made his name with Basque club Athletic Bilbao, after two years in Turin.
Llorente had agreed with Juventus to rescind his contract and his buyout clause will be 20 million euros, Sevilla, which was in the market for a forward after selling Colombia international Carlos Bacca to AC Milan, said on its website.
