Zhirkov goal gives Chelsea 2-1 win over AC Milan

YURI Zhirkov scored in the 69th minute for Chelsea to defeat AC Milan 2-1 and provide new coach Carlo Ancelotti a satisfying victory over his former team in the World Football Challenge yesterday.

Chelsea fired two close-range kicks at goaltender Zeljko Kalac before Zhirkov's attempt landed in the left corner of the net.

The World Football Challenge is a four-team round robin. Chelsea has also beaten Inter Milan, and AC Milan has lost to America.

Ancelotti quit as coach of AC Milan in May and promptly signed a three-year contract with Chelsea. The 50-year-old Italian won two Champions League titles and one Serie A with AC Milan.

Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea in the 7th, and Clarence Seedorf had the lone goal for AC Milan in the 38th before a sellout crowd of 71,203 at the home stadium of the NFL's Baltimore Ravens.
