Park tests positive, faces long ban

SOUTH Korean Olympic champion Park Tae-hwan has failed a doping test and could be banned for up to four years.
Park tested positive following a test carried out by the World Anti-Doping Agency just two months prior to the 2014 Asian Games in September, his agency Team GMP said in a statement yesterday.
South Korean media quoted his agency as saying that Park did not take any banned substance intentionally, and most likely received it from injections to treat his back injury before the Games.
“As a world famous swimmer, Park is very careful of anything that goes into his body. He never even took medicines for cold. He is shocked now at the result,” Team GMP said. “During the treatment, he had repeatedly checked with doctors about the contents but was assured by them. Now we are trying to figure out why it happened and the hospital should be held accountable.”
Chinese Olympic champion Sun Yang also failed a doping test at the national championships in May while the sanction was only announced in November.
