Paddlers retain men's team world title
China beat Germany 3-0 to win the men's title at the world team table tennis championships in Dortmund, Germany, yesterday.
In a repeat of the championship final two years ago, the defending champions didn't give much chance to the hosts as Zhang Jike overwhelmed Germany's top player Timo Boll in five sets, inspiring Ma Long and Wang Hao to beat Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Baum, respectively.
Later, just like two years ago in Moscow, the women's final was to be contested between Singapore and China, which beat the Hong Kong team 3-1 on Saturday.
Reigning individual world champion Ding Ning, fourth-ranked Li Xiaoxia and Gua Yan will seek revenge for the shocking 1-3 defeat to the Singaporeans last time round in Moscow.
