Altercation Leads To Brief Delay At US Open
POLICE escorted three fans out of Arthur Ashe Stadium after a fight in the upper stands that caused a short delay in Novak Djokovic's match against Philipp Petzschner at the US Open.
US Tennis Association spokesman Chris Widmaier said it was a "disagreement over verbiage," that took place during the first set of the second-round match.
Djokovic and Petzschner stopped playing and looked up into the stands while police handcuffed the fans and led them out. It was the kind of scene more common at a baseball game than a tennis match. Widmaier said: "It was a hot night in New York. Things happen."
