Azarenka up to No. 5 in rankings

VICTORIA Azarenka has jumped up to world No. 5 in the latest WTA rankings, after beating Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Miami Open final at Key Biscayne on Saturday.

The former world No. 1 became just the third woman, after Kim Clijsters and Steffi Graf, to win in Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back.

Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber of Germany retakes second spot from Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska thanks to her run to the semis, where she lost to Belarusian Azarenka.

American Serena Williams still holds a substantial lead at the top, despite losing to Kuznetsova in the last 16, her first defeat at the tournament since 2012.

Two-time major winner Kuznetsova is the biggest mover, leaping six places to 13th.

Novak Djokovic remains streets ahead of the rest in the ATP world rankings, after claiming a record-equalling sixth Miami Open title on Sunday.

The Serb beat world No. 6 Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-4 to add to his Indian Wells success.

There are no movers in the top 10, but 20-year-old Australian Nick Kyrgios has broken into the top 20 for the first time by reaching the semifinals.

Belgian David Goffin jumps a couple of places despite losing to Djokovic in the last four.

Djokovic surpassed Roger Federer as the highest-earning player in ATP Tour history by capturing a third consecutive Miami Open crown.

Djokovic’s win saw him pocket US$1.028 million, taking him past Federer as the all-time ATP earnings leader with US$98,199,548 to the Swiss great’s US$97,855,881.
