The Czech Republic will be without Tomas Berdych in the Davis Cup playoff in India next week. Berdych, the country’s top player who contributed to the 2012-13 Davis Cup titles, opted to focus on the ATP Tour this year and also didn’t play in the 2-3 loss to Australia in the first round. A day after he lost to Richard Gasquet 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 1-6 in the fourth round of the US Open, Berdych said he was ready to help the team next year.
