Clijsters reinvented as Barbie

NOW little Jada will still have her mother to play with, even when Kim Clijsters if off competing in grand slam tournaments.

Clijsters was immortalized as a Barbie doll yesterday, and her daughter Jada is also now available in a mini-version of the doll phenomenon that has spanned generations.

Clijsters said in a statement: "When I was a young girl I played with my Barbie dolls ... My family means everything to me, so I was really excited when I found out that Jada would also receive her very own 'Jada Barbie' doll."

Jada, almost 2, caught the world's attention at the US Open last September when celebrating her mother's victory at Flushing Meadows.

There was no version available of Clijsters' husband, Brian Lynch, as Ken.

Meanwhile, Serena Williams and Clijsters will play each other in an exhibition at Madison Square Garden in New York on March 1.

The semifinal at the BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup will come less than six months after - and about a 15 kilometer drive from - their US Open semifinal, which ended abruptly with Williams' outburst at a line judge.

Clijsters went on to win the tournament.

Williams later was fined a record US$82,500 and placed on two years of probation at grand slam events.

The other semifinal on March 1 pits Williams' sister Venus against reigning French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The one-day event will feature one-set semifinals and a three-set final and has US$1.2 million in prize money.
