Crowning glory as Masters 1000 back with new sponsor

THE ATP Masters 1000 tournament has been renamed Shanghai Rolex Masters this year and organizers are doling out great ticket deals to lure in the fans.

Visitors, who make a trip to the Shanghai World Expo, can avail of a 50 percent discount on their Masters ticket, promoters of the tournament announced in Shanghai yesterday.

The top-tier event, which attracts the top names in the sport, will be played at the Qizhong Stadium in Minhang District from October 9-17.

The Ground Pass that allows entry to all the matches, except at the main Centre Court, has been priced 30 yuan (US$4). With an Expo ticket, the same pass can be had for a rock bottom 15 yuan, organizer Shanghai Juss Event announced.

Two thirds of the total 99 Masters matches will be played outside on the 22 courts at the Qizhong stadium.

And then there is the special All-Star tickets for Tuesday (October 12) and Wednesday (October 13) when the top-8 players will be in action.

In another deal, more than 3,000 Expo tickets will be given out to the holders of Series A tickets (2,800 yuan) or two A tickets (1,080 yuan each) for the semifinals and final.

Fans can log in to www.shanghairolexmasters.com or call the hotline at 8621-962123 for more information.

Tickets can be booked from May 27 but will be delivered after June 7.

"As we know, the players voted Shanghai as their favorite ATP Masters 1000 tournament - a major achievement at any time, but in particular because it was the inaugural event here. For this year, there will be more for the players, fans, sponsors and partners to be excited about," said Brad Drewett, CEO of ATP International Group. "To ensure a higher standard of service and a greater experience for fans, facilities will be upgraded in the magnolia-roofed main stadium, including a new retail and hospitality pavilion," he said.

The terracotta statues of the past Masters Cup winners will be back again at the "Champions Avenue" that connects the Centre Court with the Grand Stand Court. The Cup winners are Lleyton Hewitt (2002), David Nalbandian (2005), Roger Federer (2006, 2007), Novak Djokovic (2008) and Nikolay Davydenko (2009).

"The new ticket portfolio and initiatives are just part of our plan to provide fans with an even greater experience in 2010," tournament director Sun Lei said.
