Hewitt whips Dimitrov; Youzhny topples Nishikori
FORMER Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt gave Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov a grasscourt masterclass in a second-round Aegon Championships victory at Queen's Club in London yesterday.
The 32-year-old Australian needed little more than an hour to win 6-4, 6-3 as 10th seed Dimitrov struggled to cope with his formidable grasscourt skills.
Dimitrov, 22, who was watched by girlfriend Maria Sharapova during his first-round match on Tuesday, never got close to Hewitt's serve.
Hewitt, bidding for a fifth title at the traditional Wimbledon warm-up event, will face 2010 champion Sam Querrey of the United States in the third round.
Top seed Andy Murray was scheduled to play his first grasscourt match since winning Olympic gold at Wimbledon last year later, although rain threatened to disrupt the schedule again. The world No. 2 was up against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut who beat the Scot here last year.
In Halle, Germany, fourth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan fell to Mikhail Youzhny 1-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6 in the second round of the Gerry Weber Open yesterday.
Youzhny, 30, will face one of German pair Philipp Kohlschreiber, the sixth seed, or Tobias Kamke in the next round.
The Russian reached the Halle semifinals last season where he was beaten by five-time champion Roger Federer.
This was world No. 13 Nishikori's opening match due to a first-round bye.
And he was slow out in getting used to the grass as world No. 29 Youzhny, who became an instant YouTube hit during Roland Garros after smashing his racket nine times against his chair in a fit during his defeat to Germany's Tommy Haas, breezed through the first set.
But Nishikori battled manly for more than two hours before succumbing.
