Junior French Open wildcard qualifications in city

THE French Tennis Federation will hold one of its 2015 French Open Junior Tournament wildcard qualification tournaments in Shanghai on March 18-22.

The event will offer Chinese players aged between 13 and 18 and who have registered with the International Tennis Federation a good chance to compete in the only claycourt grand slam.

There will be 16 slots, respectively, for boys and girls to take part in the competition on the claycourts of the Shanghai Tencher Tennis Academy in Pudong New Area.

Wildcard qualification competitions will also be held in the Indian capital New Delhi and San Paulo in Brazil.

The champions in boy’s and girl’s singles in the three cities will gather in Paris in May for a final competition. The final matches will be held on Champ-de-Mars, right in front of the iconic Eiffel Tower, and the winners will be granted wildcards for the 2015 Roland-Garros Junior Tournament, which features the world’s best young tennis players.

Meanwhile, French Open trophies —the Musketeers Trophy for the men’s singles and the Suzanne Lenglen Trophy for the women’s singles — will be transported from Paris to Shanghai during the junior wildcard qualification, and will go on display at Yuyuan Garden and the Bund.

The trophies will also be placed at the venue during the final of the Shanghai competition on March 22 to encourage the young players.
