Martinez Sanchez triumphs
JOSE-MARIA Martinez Sanchez won the Hansol Korea Open yesterday, defeating Galina Voskoboeva in the final in straight sets 7-6 (0), 7-6 (2).
The Spaniard, who was seeded sixth for the tournament on Seoul's Olympic Park hardcourts, showed her experience in both tie-breaks, allowing her 82nd-ranked opponent from Kazakhstan just two points.
Martinez Sanchez, ranked 36 in the world, won her fifth title and her second of 2011.
In Tokyo, ninth-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Japanese wildcard Misaki Doi in the first round of the Pan Pacific Open yesterday.
In other first-round matches, 11th-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia beat Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 6-4, 6-3; Japan's Ayumi Morita advanced with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Irina Falconi of the United States; and Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn opened with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Czech Petra Cetkovska.
