Mixed doubles players probed
THE Tennis Integrity Unit has interviewed players involved in an Australian Open mixed doubles match that reportedly attracted suspicious betting patterns with a gambling website.
The New York Times reported that Pinnacle Sports said it had received an unusual spike in bets for Lukasz Kubot and Andrea Hlavackova to beat David Marrero and Lara Arruabarrena, causing it to suspend betting before the teams played on Sunday.
All players identified in the newspaper report have rejected any possibility of fixing. Kubot and Hlavackova, who won 6-0, 6-3, said the Tennis Integrity Unit had asked them questions about the match.
Kubot told reporters he didn’t notice anything unusual, saying “we give 100 percent of that match” and he believed his opponents “were trying 100 percent.” He said no players should have been identified without proof of wrongdoing.
