Nadal, Federer headline star-studded Friday line-up
FOUR-TIMES champion Rafael Nadal faces the unusual prospect of playing his French Open second-round match today after yesterday's near washout and the unique scheduling at Roland Garros.
Nadal is joined by Roger Federer, Justine Henin, Venus and Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray in a star-studded Friday line-up with organisers hoping to make up for lost time to rain on the Wednesday and Thursday.
The Spanish world number two faces Argentine Horacio Zeballos first on centre court after organisers gave Nadal a Tuesday slot for his first-round match, two days after the slam's unique Sunday start.
Henin, another four-time champion, has unfinished business with Czech Klara Zakopalova, who was trailing 6-3 3-2 when dusk and rain interrupted the contest yesterday.
World number one Serena Williams will also be in second-round action against German Julia Goerges, opening proceedings on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
Serbian Djokovic, seeded third, is also expected to hit the ball on Court One, known locally as the Bullring, against Japan's Kei Nishikori with rain forecast to be absent on Friday.
Briton Murray, the fourth seed, will have enjoyed little rest when he faces Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, the 25th seed, in a third-round contest, having finished his second-round match at around 2100 local time on Thursday.
Defending champion and top seed Roger Federer, who has beaten the rain so far, will also be looking to book his place in the fourth round against unheralded German Julian Reister on Lenglen.
Women's holder Svetlana Kuznetsova plays her third-round match against fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko on the Bullring, where she flirted with elimination in the previous round.
Second seed Venus Williams as well as local hopes Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Aravane Rezai will also be in third-round action.
