Nadal cuts short comeback after leg injury flares up

Top seed Rafael Nadal has pulled out of this week鈥檚 Mexican Open in Acapulco after aggravating the leg injury that forced him out of the Australian Open last month.

The world No. 2, who was due to face fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez yesterday, said he felt a sharp pain during his final training session on Tuesday and decided not to compete on the advice of his medical team. 鈥淒octors have told me that it is impossible to play, regardless of whether it hurts,鈥 said Nadal. 鈥淭here is a significant risk of increasing the injury and I have no choice.鈥 Nadal, 31, who has not competed since retiring against Croatia鈥檚 Marin Cilic in Melbourne last month, said, 鈥淚 still don鈥檛 know what it is, because we don鈥檛 know. It seems it鈥檚 not as bad as what I had at the Australian Open.鈥
