Nadal-Gonzalez resume match after rain delay
RAFAEL Nadal and Fernando Gonzalez resumed their quarter-final showdown at the US Open yesterday following a 75-minute rain interruption.
After 10 days of dry weather, rain stopped play at this year's championships for the first time at 2024 local time (0024 GMT Friday).
World number three Nadal was leading Chilean 11th seed Gonzalez 7-6 2-2 in the last men's quarter-final match.
The players were initially kept on court for five minutes as organisers checked if the showers would pass over Arthur Ashe Stadium quickly.
Nadal, who has been troubled by an abdominal strain, used the time to get a rub down from a tournament trainer but both players were eventually sent back to the locker rooms.
The winner of the match will face Argentine sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro. Top-seeded champion Roger Federer will face Novak Djokovic in the other semi-final scheduled for Saturday.
