Novak rules in Paris as Ferrer stalls

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic defeated defending champion David Ferrer 7-5, 7-5 yesterday to win the Paris Masters after a thrilling final at the Bercy arena.
The Spaniard twice served for the set only for the six-time grand slam winner to show his pedigree and break at the crucial moment before holding serve to close out the first set and then the match.
Ferrer, 31, fell short of becoming the first player to successfully defend the Paris title while Djokovic took another step towards regaining the No. 1 spot from Rafael Nadal heading to the ATP World Tour Finals this week in London.
The second-seeded Serb won his 17th straight match to capture his sixth title this season. It was also Djokovic’s 40th ATP title victory, the 15th player to reach this milestone.
“I’m full of joy right now and this is one of the biggest weeks of the tennis season so I’m really happy and just want to continue like this,” said the 26-year-old Serb.
Ferrer had upset compatriot Nadal in the semifinal while Djokovic was taken to three sets by Swiss Roger Federer.
Earlier, Bob and Mike Bryan beat Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil 6-3, 6-3 in the doubles final to win their 11th title this season.
The American twins’ victories include titles at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. They have won a record 15 grand slam titles together.
The top-seeded Bryans avenged their loss to Peya and Soares in the final of the Valencia Open last weekend.
