Paradorn comeback set for this week
FORMER ninth-ranked Paradorn Srichaphan announced his comeback from nearly three years out with injury yesterday, saying he'll play doubles at the Thailand Open this week.
The 30-year-old Thai hasn't played on the ATP Tour since March 2007 because of a wrist injury. He'll team up with his countryman Danai Udomchoke as a wildcard entry in the tournament, which starts tomorrow.
"I wanted to come back by using the Thailand Open as my tournament. I'm not fit enough for singles," Paradorn said.
Paradorn originally planned a return to the tour last year. He had operations on the wrist in Los Angeles in 2007 and Bangkok this year.
Married to former Miss Universe Natalie Glebova, Paradorn spent his free time motorcycling, appearing on Thai sports TV shows and opening an Italian restaurant.
Paradorn has won five career titles, the last one in Nottingham in 2004.
In Seoul, Kimiko Date Krumm of Japan advanced to the Korea Open final by beating defending champion Maria Kirilenko of Russia 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 yesterday.
She will play second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain, who defeated Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Date Krumm, who returned to professional tennis in 2008 after a 12-year hiatus, said she played without pressure.
"I had nothing to lose if I lost the match, but Kirilenko probably felt she had to win," Date Krumm said, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency.
In Tashkent, Uzbekistan, local favorite Akgul Amanmuradova upset top-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-4, 7-6 (3) yesterday to advance to the Tashkent Open final.
The 113th-ranked Amanmuradova will play second-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel, who beat Olga Govortsova of Belarus 7-6 (5), 6-2.
