ROGER Federer has helped organize a special exhibition event tomorrow to benefit Haiti earthquake victims.
The top-ranked Federer announced today that he had asked players to get involved in doubles or mixed doubles at Rod Laver Arena, a day before the Australian Open starts.
Federer, who has won a record 15 Grand Slam singles titles, is expected to be joined by both reigning Australian Open champions - Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams - along with 2008 winner Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, US Open women's champion Kim Clijsters and Australia's Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur.
"I had the idea that we could do something to help Haiti after the tragic earthquake. So I spoke to some other top players ... I have some connections," Federer told a news conference. "They all said, 'Yes, we should do something.'"
Federer said the admission price would be US$10. Rod Laver Arena, the main stadium court for the Australian Open, seats 15,000.
The season's first major starts Monday, although Federer and Serena Williams and the other players in the top half of the men's and women's draws won't play until Tuesday.
