Top 100 breakthrough for Australian ace Barty
AUSTRALIAN Ashleigh Barty jumped 66 places into the world top 100 in the latest WTA rankings released yesterday following her victory at the Malaysian Open. After coming through the qualifiers, Barty, now ranked 92, beat Japan’s Nao Hibino in straight sets in Kuala Lumpur for her first WTA title. The top rankings were unchanged with the leaders all out of action last week but Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko moved up nine places to 41st after winning in Acapulco while her beaten opponent Kristina Mladenovic of France rose four places to 26th, her highest ranking.
