World No.1 Novak Djokovic leaped to the defense of Roger Federer on Tuesday, telling critics of the Swiss to give him a break.

Federer was upset by Tommy Robredo, seeded 19th, on Monday.

“People need to give him a break a little bit,” said the Serb.

Andy Murray believes a series of wins could restore Federer’s place in the elite.

“I think a lot of players go through periods where they’re not playing their best tennis,” Murray said.
