Wawrinka unhappy at Kyrgios apology

Stan Wawrinka on Wednesday accused Aussie bad boy Nick Kyrgios of failing to properly apologize for his lurid outburst toward the Swiss star, after struggling into the third round of the ATP Cincinnati Masters event.

Kyrgios made headlines last week after crude remarks concerning Wawrinka鈥檚 reported girlfriend, Donna Vekic, during a match against the Swiss ace in Montreal.

World number five Wawrinka admitted the controversy was still on his mind on Wednesday after fighting back from a set down to defeat Croatia鈥檚 Borna Coric 3-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-3.

Third seed Andy Murray ended the Cincinnati career of retiring Mardy Fish 6-4, 7-6 (7/1) in a post-midnight finish after the rain. Rafael Nadal concluded even later as he defeated Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-4.

Kyrgios, who was fined by the ATP for his courtside sledge, issued a statement apologizing for his remarks, insisting they were made 鈥渋n the heat of the moment.鈥

However Wawrinka said this didn鈥檛 go far enough.

鈥淗e didn鈥檛 really apologize to the people. He should. That鈥檚 it. That simple.鈥

Wawrinka was joined as a winner by top seed Novak Djokovic, who beat Benoit Paire 7-5, 6-2. This is the only Masters 1000 title Djokovic has not won.

In the women鈥檚 draw, last week鈥檚 Toronto champion Belinda Bencic continued her run of form, reaching the third round over Flavia Pennetta 6-1, 6-4.

Holder Serena Williams, whom the Swiss beat in the Canadian semi-finals, beat Tsvetana Pironkova 7-5, 6-3.
