Wozniacki sets up Vesnina final

WORLD No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki defeated Serbia's Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday to set up a final meeting with Russian Elena Vesnina at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dane Wozniacki broke eighth-ranked Jankovic five times but also suffered three breaks of serve herself in a hard-fought encounter that lasted one hour 47 minutes.

Wozniacki is seeking her third tournament victory of the year after title triumphs at Indian Wells and Dubai.

Vesnina, ranked 56th in the world, has never won a WTA Tour singles event and will hope to break through in her fifth final.

The 24-year-old defeated China's 11th seed Peng Shuai 7-6 (4), 6-3, avenging her defeat in the quarterfinals in Doha in February.

Vesnina has impressed this week, beating No. 2 seed and defending champion Samantha Stosur of Australia on her way to the final.

Wozniacki defeated Vesnina in the final at New Haven in August 2009 and has a 4-1 record against the Russian.

"I know her game pretty well," Vesnina said. "And it just depends on how I feel, how Caroline will play tomorrow."

In Houston, Texas, wildcard Ryan Sweeting upset former champion Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (3), 6-3 to advance to the final of the US Clay Court Championship on Saturday.

American Sweeting, who will face Japan's Kei Nishikori for the title, survived three break points in the fourth game and rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the tie breaker with five consecutive points to take the first set.

Sweeting broke the Croat's serve to take a 4-2 lead over the 2007 champion in the second set and closed out the match on serve.

"I feel great here in Houston," Sweeting said. "Ivo had a three-hour match and was in a little bit of pain out here today. I knew he'd be serving big, but you can't let that bother you. You've just got to take care of your own serve.

"It's good to get to my first final here in the States and here in Houston."

In the other semifinal, Nishikori defeated Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-3 7-5 to reach his second ATP Tour final. He won the Delray Open in 2008.
