Zhang in final, Zheng exits

American qualifier Vania King reached the final of the Guangzhou Open in south China’s Guangdong Province by beating Zheng Jie of China 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 yesterday.

King will face Zhang Shuai in the final after the Chinese wildcard defeated Yvonne Meusburger of Austria 6-1, 6-1.

Zhang stunned defending champion Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei in the second round.

All seeded players at the tournament lost before the semifinals.

In Seoul, top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska advanced to the semifinals of the Korea Open yesterday with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Vera Dushevina of Russia.

Radwanska, making her debut at the Seoul tournament, took advantage of six double-faults in the match and will next face Lara Arruabarrena in the semifinals.

Spain’s Arruabarrena beat local favorite Jang Su-jeong 6-0, 6-4.

Also, Francesca Schiavone rallied from a set down to beat Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Italian will next take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova after the Russian proved too strong for Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, booking her place in the semi-finals in 80 minutes with a 6-2 6-2 victory.
