Zhang may face Federer
CHINESE tennis player Zhang Ze may get the chance to challenge No. 1 ranked Roger Federer in the second round of the 2012 Shanghai Rolex Masters, according to the draw held at the Bund yesterday.
The top eight seeds, Federer, Novak Djokovic, two-time defending champion Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Janko Tipsarevic, Juan Monaco and John Isner have been given first round byes.
Zhang, who was given a wild-card entry, will take on the 32-year-old Swiss in the second round if he beats a qualifier in the first round.
Federer said he looks forward to getting on the court and having a good tournament.
"I hope to play a good tournament and stay healthy," said Federer, who was joined at the draw ceremony by Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who won the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai in 2002. "Obviously there's an extra incentive for me trying to do well."
Federer, who missed the Shanghai Rolex Masters last year, said he "loves the city and the passionate fans here."
The last time he played the Shanghai Rolex Masters he reached the final but was defeated by Britain's Andy Murray, the reigning Olympic gold medalist and US Open champion.
