BETWEEN August 9 and 18, a feast of music is promised at the 2012 Shanghai Cool Docks Bund City Music Week. Organizers say The Cool Docks is the perfect environment for musicians, as the area - which sees shikumen architecture meet high-tech high-rises - is inspiring and ideal for creative gatherings.
The concerts will feature symphony performances, jazz concerts, chamber concerts and a solo piano concert with renowned musicians including Hu Qingwen, Wu Xiaofeng, Yang Nailin and Hu Yongyan.
Some events, such as Young People at the Cool Docks by Datong High School Orchestral Concert and Summertime Young People's Concert, are intended to encourage young people with a love of classical music.
And each day, two artists will hold a public dialogue about the music they play.
Some 10,000 tickets are being given away free by phone. Music fans are advised to get calling, as they're bound to be snapped up soon.
