A world of illusions to excite all ages

THIS summer, laughing, screaming, running, taking photos or doing anything else not allowed in most museums is coming true at the Museum of Illusions’ latest Shanghai location on Jiujiang Road.
The Museum of Illusions concept was launched in 2015 in Zagreb, Croatia. Shanghai is now home to the first Museum of Illusions in China, and it’s also the largest of the 20 museums worldwide.
The collection, consisting of illusionistic rooms, optical illusions, puzzles and more, is all based on science, mathematics, biology and psychology. Visitors can learn about vision, perception, the human brain and science through more than 80 fun exhibits.
Most were designed by architect Juraj Kralj, while graphic designer Dragan VejnoviĆ is responsible for the visual concept of the museum.
The Rotated Room is where visitors can radically change the view of the world to take photos of incredible poses, while the Head on the Platter is a spot to experience the illusion of a hidden body — it makes the wish of wanting somebody’s head on a plate come true.
The Ames Room lets you see how a person walking back and forth can grow and shrink before your very eyes — in one corner of the room, a person can be a giant, and in the other, a dwarf.
The Vortex tunnel will make your head spin and feel you are losing your balance while standing on a completely stable and flat surface. It’s achieved by a rotating cylinder of visual illusions.
Because the museum is an interactive experience that offers lots of photo opportunities, it’s best to visit with friends. The world of illusions excites all ages from children to grandparents. The admission is 118 yuan (US$17.2) for children aged 3-12, 138 yuan for adults and 388 yuan for a family (two adults and one child aged under 12).
