Agatha Christie fun at Xintiandi
TEN Little Soldier Boys went out to dine;
One choked his little self and then there were nine.
...
One Little Soldier Boy left all alone;
He went out and hanged himself and then there were none.
The children’s song “Ten Little Indians” serves as a major clue in British crime novelist Agatha Christie’s famous work “And Then There Were None.” Now fans of the mystery master have a chance to try their hands at solving the riddle.
The exhibition “Queen of the Crime” held at Xintiandi Style brings alive some representative scenes in Christie’s classic works. Ten little Indian figurines are placed in the living room in the ground-floor atrium. They start disappearing one by one every three days, starting May 22, hidden inside the shops or public areas in the Xintiandi building.
Visitors are encouraged to find them based on clues inside a gramophone in the living room and the map of the building.
Other scenes from “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Witness for the Prosecution” are also on display.
Among the exhibits, the manuscripts of Christie’s works and an instruction to “The Mousetrap” that are kept by the writer’s grandson, make their first appearance in China.
