Art festival celebrating the postcard phenomenon
IF you love traveling, sending and collecting postcards, then photos of the popular form of communication, and postboxes, are wanted for the 2017 Shanghai Citizen Art Festival.
Shanghai Mass Art Center is now holding a postcard-themed exhibition “Postrip” until late September. A selection of postcards from five exhibitors will be on display and they will share their stories behind the cards in a lecture on July 15.
The exhibition aims to celebrate the reasons why we travel, the memories we create and the people we meet on all four corners of the globe, inspired by a special program called Postcrossing.
The social media platform allows members to send postcards to other members and the sender will then receive at least one postcard from other members.
Launched on July 14 in 2005 by Portuguese Paulo Magalhães, who previously lived in Shanghai, the program now has around 682,000 members from 209 countries and regions. The number of sent postcards exceeds 41 million.
A total of 10 lucky photo submitters will receive a free pack of first day cover, personalized stamps and postmark issued on July 15.
