Artifacts from China’s ancient past
IN collaboration with Xuzhou Museum in Jiangsu Province, Shanghai Museum is holding an exhibition of objects created in prehistoric China through to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 25).
The exhibition features over 200 priceless antiques which capture a range of cultural and political topics. Artifacts on view include oracle bones, bronze vessels, pottery pieces, lacquer articles and jade items.
The highlight of the exhibition is a jade burial suit with gold threading from the Western Han Dynasty. It is one of most delicately-made and best-preserved artifacts of its kind dating to the dynasty. Another similar suit from the Xuzhou Museum will also be on view this month.
The museum has also launched a special guide on its official WeChat account, where visitors can find background information and stories about each exhibited item. The guide was created by researchers based in the museum to ensure information accuracy and relevancy.
