Artist creates world from humble

For Lego toy fans, it is a great opportunity to witness 42 sculptures made exclusively of Lego bricks. American-based artist Nathan Sawaya brings his “Creation beyond Imagination — The Art of the Brick” exhibition, which has been a hit in New York, Hong Kong and Taiwan over the years and honored as one of 10 must-see exhibitions in the world by CNN, a US cable news channel.

The exhibition, which runs through October 27, is truly a joyful trip for both kids and adults. In Sawaya’s view, bricks are not only a favorite childhood toy but also an inspiring medium for contemporary art.

One of the highlights is a 20-foot-long dinosaur that is made of more than 80,000 Lego bricks. The skeleton and body of the dinosaur are lively and stimulate people’s imaginations.

His signature piece, “Yellow” is a large yellow torso of a man tearing open his chest to unleash a cascade of plastic bricks. He says it’s about his personal metamorphosis.

Besides, there are a tiger-giraffe, a giant queen figure and a 2-meter-high pencil “for writing on the ceiling” on display. He also makes various celebrity portraits.

The exhibition features interactive, brick-building games, aiming not only to stimulate children’s imagination but also evoke adults’ nostalgia for their childhood toys.
