Coldrain brings blistering blend of hardcore to Shanghai

JAPANESE post-hardcore band coldrain is ready to challenge the hard rock genre’s heavyweights and takes a place alongside them on the global stage.

Formed in 2007 in Nagoya, Japan, the band mixes melodic singing and screams — all in English.

Songwriting duo Masato David Hayakawa, who delivers the distinctive screaming and vocals, and Ryo “Y.K.C” Yokochi on lead guitar bring coldrain songs to life.

The band’s lineup also includes rhythm guitarist Kazuya Sugiyama, bassist Ryo Shimizu and drummer Katsuma Minatani, who add further energy to the well-oiled machine.

Coldrain has cemented itself as a top-10 status band in the Japanese charts and headlined several music festivals in Japan and abroad, including Tokyo Budokan. Its growing fanbase feed on the band’s energy and often crowd surf at gigs. Frontman Masato is also prone to dive into the pit and ride the waves of the crowd.

The band released their sixth fulllength album “THE SIDE EFFECTS” in August, second on the Warner Music Japan label. The Japanese five-piece has also released another five studio albums and three EPs, including “Final Destination,” “The Revelation” and “Fateless,” responsible for tracks like “We’re not alone,” “REVOLUTION,” “Confession,” “FEED THE FIRE” and “Heart Of The Young.”

After showcasing their sheer power, energy and spectacular musicianship in Shanghai, the band will visit Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
