Festival boasts international lineup

THE Shanghai West Bank Music Festival 2012 will take place at Xuhui Riverside Area from September 30 to October 2.

The lineup includes musicians from the US, Europe, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. Highlights include rockers Kusturica, the No Smoking Orchestra, French classical instrumentalist Yann Tiersen and American singer/songwriter Michael Bolton, who may even bust out the "Ballad of Captain Jack Sparrow."

The Xuhui Riverside Area stretches for 8.4 kilometers and is the longest of its kind in the city. It starts on Longrui Road and runs all the way to Fenglin Road.

The area also highlights its historical heritage. In the past, the area was home to factories, cement plants, lumber yards and docks. Various leftovers from this era including anchor pile piers, dock tower cranes, train tracks and airport oil depots have been preserved, giving visitors a vivid picture of how this part of the city evolved over the years.

Adult tickets are 330 yuan (US$52.3) each per day and student tickets are 230 yuan a day. A three-day pass costs 780 yuan. There is a 50-yuan discount per ticket for purchases made by September 25.
