Festival offers much more than music

THE Daning Music Festival will take place at Life Hub @ Daning (1878, Gonghexin Road) for the sixth time.

The festival from October 13 to 21 will feature exciting performances by singers from Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei.

Opening night features Hong Kong singer Candy Lo and the band KOLOR. Lo will be mixing songs from her new album in the set with some of her big hits.

Bands such as GAIA and Sodagreen will also hit the stage during the festival. Sodagreen has shifted from an underground indie band to become more mainstream. Their beguiling voices and melodies thrill their legions of fans. GAIA is from Shanghai and the visual rock band, whose name is derived from Greek mythology, has a wide variety of songs.

Beijing singer Peng Tan, a vocalist in the Chinese rock band Dada, will bring his emotionally resonant and groovy pop to the festival.

The event is also an interactive platform for different city cultures. Through October 21, cultural design exhibitions will be held at the same venue, showcasing fashion, film, original design and photography from the four cities.

Neng Mao store is full of nostalgia. It is a shop featuring old stationery items, toys and wallpaper from Shanghai. It will host an exhibition during the festival.

Young Hong Kong designer Toby Yeung will give a grand new concept of Hong Kong design in his exhibition together with other 14 Hong Kong designers.

Yeung said: "Hong Kong is a great container full of creations. Although it's crowded, different cultures and information can be absorbed due to this reason." His works are described as modern, witty and impressive.

Taiwan shopkeeper, A Cheng will open a grocery store at the venue aiming to add a Taiwanese atmosphere.

Chen Jiaojiao and Peng Yangjun are a couple who work together. They spent three months taking photographs that showcase the stories of Bejing. Visitors to the festival are bound to ponder about what life is like in Beijing due to their striking images.
