Music In The Summer

Organized by the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the annual "Music In The Summer (MISA)" festival serves up a feast for classical music lovers.

Staged mostly in Lujiazui Central Greenland, this year's MISA offers concerts which boldly blend classical music with pop, folk, country, jazz and cinema classics. It all starts today, through August 12. Here are some highlights.



"The Lord of The Rings Symphony"

The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra teams up with the Shanghai Opera Chorus and Shanghai Youth Choir to perform Oscar-winning pieces by Canadian composer Howard Shore.

BBC "The Blue Planet"

BBC documentary series "The Blue Planet" provides a stunning insight into mysterious marine life and the ocean environment. Its music received Emmy awards.

Blake Crossover

Teamed up with the CSG String Ensemble, well-groomed British classical vocal quartet Blake present a crossover concert featuring classic songs such as "She," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "With or Without You," plus "Here's To The Heroes," a toast to the London Olympics, and "You And Me," a tribute to the Beijing Olympics.

Natalia Gutman Recital

Russian cellist Natalia Gutman and The State Hermitage Orchestra. Expect works by Shostakovich and Brahms.

"Beatlemania!"

Headed by British conductor Martin Yeats, the UK's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a selection of songs by The Beatles, including "Hey Jude," "Let It Be," "Yellow Submarine" and "Yesterday."
