Musical bonanza in the summer air

THE annual Music in the Summer Air (MISA) festival starts today and runs through July 21. The low-cost music festival promises fans a fantastic audio feast.

The program features classical music, jazz, opera and multimedia at Lujiazui Central Greenland in the Pudong New Area and at The Waterhouse at South Bund in Huangpu District.

The festival will include rock, pop, crossover, folk and other genres. The festival invited jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, who won the Grammy in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category this year, 10 violinists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Fado queen Mariza and the Shanghai Quartet.

Gong Linna, who became famous in 2010 for experimental work "Tan Te" ("Disturbed"), will present her latest, "Ai Zhi Ge" ("Love Song"). It's based on the works of female poet Li Qingzhao (1084-1155) in the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
