New sub selections cut the fat out of fast foods
FOR the working crowd with too little time for lunch, and who end up resorting to fast food, the eight new selections at Subway should be welcome news. The new six-inch subs aren't just new flavors on the menu; they all contain less than 6 grams of fat.
"Shanghai is full of young professionals who are busy but like to maintain a healthy lifestyle - and choosing Subway's eight subs with 'under 6 grams of fat' will be a key to that," said spokesman Kurt Lipson.
If you thought all fast food came from the same old greasy, fattening, unhealthy mould, fast food chains have been making a gradual shift toward offering more healthy options on their menus.
At Subway, there is a conscious effort to put wholesome and nutritious food on diners' plates, even when it's fast food.
Diners get to tailor make their own "sub" - a long bread roll - according to individual likes and dislikes, choosing from a selection of breads, vegetables and dressings. Apart from the usual greens like lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers, there are also black olives from Spain that provide a concentrated dose of healthy mono-unsaturated fat and pickles from Germany packed with vitamins, virtually fat free and low in calories.
To further prove that healthy meals don't naturally mean tasteless and boring food, the 12 dressings include flavors like honey mustard, chipotle (pepper) and BBQ to add some zest.
All under 6 grams of fat, Subway's new subs are bound to appeal to all palates with flavors like sweet onion, chicken teriyaki, roast beef and Subway Club.
The subs will feature as part of the chain's new "eat healthier" campaign in parts of China this year. The campaign will introduce a number of promotions and activities to give greater value to encourage customers to choose a healthy lifestyle.
